Welcome to the website of the
Revue Belge d'histoire contemporaine
Belgisch Tijdschrift voor nieuwste geschiedenis
The Revue Belge d'Histoire Contemporaine / Belgisch Tijdschrift voor Nieuwste Geschiedenis (Belgian Review of contemporary history) was founded in 1969 by professor Jan Dhondt, head of the Department of Contemporary History at Ghent University. After his sudden demise in 1972 his iniative was continued by the Jan Dhondt Foundation, which has been publishing the review to this day. The editorial board is composed of representatives of all Belgian universities and a number of distinguished foreign historians. The review mostly contains contributions by younger researchers and consequently offers a survey of current research trends in Belgian contemporary historiography. In the section 'Kroniek/Chronique' summaries are published of recently defended doctoral theses. All articles have been put through a process of peer review and are accompanied by French (or Dutch) and English summaries.
Articles appearing in this journal
are abstracted/indexed by Historical Abstracts,
PP/SWTL and, since 2007, the ISI Arts and
Humanities Citation Index.
